Little known facts ...

Why are we called Blue Goat Careers? Because it’s FUN. What’s really important to us? Enjoying what we do. That’s pretty much it.

It doesn’t matter to us if you have fun at work, are deeply satisfied by what you do, or just have moments that you can say you enjoy. But there needs to be something about work that brings an element of enjoyment to your life. Having that element of enjoyment will lift you up when faced with tough situations, and help you identify when the joy has been lost entirely and its time to move on.

For most people who find the work that they love, at some point, there is an ‘ah-ha’ moment when they look at a particular job, industry or career and say “YES! that’s it”. To get to that ah-ha moment, we need to know what makes us happy, what we like and what is the type of life we want to live. If we go back in time to the 1950s, it would be safe to say that many people were sold the story that they had to work to earn money, to have a life outside of work (which is the part they were actually meant to enjoy). Move forward to today, many of us are seeking that same level of satisfaction through our work AND in our personal lives. The separation between our professional and personal is often very blurred as we socialise with colleagues as friends, and share our personal lives with our colleagues.

Tonnes of research is showing just how important it is to love at least some part of what you do. There is even research to state that those who say that they “love their work” are in fact happier and mentally healthier people. You might be someone who appreciates the money that you are paid because it provides you with a life that you love, you could be someone who is passionate about the field you work in and the advances it is making in the world, or hold a vocation that is strongly welded to your personal beliefs. There is a whole range of ways that we can enjoy what we do.

The most important point to understand is that you need something “that will bring you joy” (yes, its a Marie Kondo concept). You can convert your statement into “it’s really cool”, “it’s freakin’ awesome”, “it’s dope” or “yeah nah, it’s alright” … whatever you want to call it. But find it, have it, enjoy it. You will be better off because of it, and so will everyone around you.
